Summary

The book "Die Sandwichbauweise" provides on ca. 400 pages comprehensive information including many photos and tables on the use of prefabricated composite panels consisting of two metal sheets and a rigid polyurethane foam core in construction and design.

It is the first book of its type in the world on sandwich panels and can be used as a reference tool for planning and design by architects, designers and building engineers.

The book has been initiated by Huntsman Polyurethanes and has been supported by the know how of the GALILEO Group members from the beginning till the publication.

It concentrates on the economic importance, the products of the major European sandwich producers, manufacturing, the materials involved, planning and construction, engineering, ecology, construction physics, design examples, regulations, legislsation and European harmonisation.

Various expamples of design in many European countries, from industrial buildings and refrigeration halls to ambitious architecture for very different types of buildings underline the vast application area of sandwich panels.

In a foreword for the book Vassilis Sgoutas, president of UIA ( UNION INTERNATIONALE DES ARCHTIECTES), states:
"The publication highlights different application of composite panels. It is obvious that the use of composite panels acquires a totally different dimension when it is combined with the creative flair of the specific architects whose works we see presented.“

The UIA salutes the initiative to publish this book.

"We feel certain that it will lead to a greater appreciation of composite panels and the materials that constitute them. It will thus not only be a book on architecture, but also a reference book, in short a useful toll for fulfilling future briefs."
