World-wide publication of the English reference book on sandwich panel construction in June 2002
Short description "Sandwich Panel Construction", 387 pages with more than 500 illustrations and numerous tables, provides a detailed presentation in the English language of sandwich panel construction using industrially prefabricated sandwich panels, consisting of metal facings and polyurethane high resistance foam core. This is the first specialist book in the world on sandwich panel construction, which serves architects, structural planners, stress analysts, site assembly engineers and building owners as a useful manual for planning and implementation, as a reference work and as a source of architectural examples.. The book deals with the economic significance, the system components of the largest European sandwich panel manufacturers, the manufacturing process, the materials involved, planning and design, statics, ecology, building physics, design examples as well as standards, regulations, laws and European harmonisation. Numerous design examples from many European countries, which extend from economical workshop and cold store construction through to filigree architecture for the most diverse types of buildings, illustrate the broad range of application of sandwich panel construction. Vassilis Sgoutas, President of the UIA (UNION INTERNATIONALE DES ARCHITECTES), describes this book in his preface: "Various applications of sandwich panels are presented in this publication. It is clear that the use of sandwich panels advances into completely new dimensions when supported by the creative flair of the architects whose works we can admire here. The UIA welcomes the initiative for the publication of this book. We are firmly convinced that this book will make a significant contribution to a better appreciation of sandwich panels and the materials on which they are based. This is not just a book about architecture, but also a reference work -in short, a useful tool for dealing with future tasks."
